Mar 13, 2024

Marilyn Childress, the Public Information Officer for East TN Foundation for Women Veterans, has been appointed by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee to The Tri-Stars and Stripes: The Governor’s Council for Service Members, Veterans and Their Families. This council was recently formed to ensure that service members, veterans, and their families have the support they need to thrive in the state.  It will consist of 13 members, including state legislators, local leaders, key veterans service organizations, and a military family representative. This council will work to increase coordination between all state agencies related to military and veterans, ensuring collaboration of key public and private military and veterans programs.

Marilyn is Co-Chair of the Resources and Equity Committee which includes a subcommittee led by her to address the needs of Female service members and veterans.  This committee has created a survey for women service members and veterans that they will use to gain a better understanding of the issues for these women in our state. With the survey they will be able to initiate programs, collaborate with state agencies and departments on special issues and find solutions for women of Tennessee. As a US Navy and Vietnam Era Veteran, Marilyn will have our interests at the forefront of her thoughts and as a Knoxville Native and Lady Vol, she will be especially mindful of the needs of East Tennessee women. A seasoned advocate for veterans, Marilyn has long history of success representing women many forums.
